What's with the name?
Academia began as Plato's school of philosophy, founded in 385 BC outside of Athens, Greece. Before it was a school, this place contained a sacred grove of olive trees dedicated to Athena, the goddess of wisdom. The archaic name for the site was Hekademia. We named our company after this place, where higher education began, to continually remind ourselves and our customers of our dedication to the enablement of education.
